Chobits

Chobits is a tale of a future that takes place in Tokyo. It falls into the magical girlfriend genre despite the fact that it has a lot of romance in it. In the entire manga series, 8 volumes were published in Kodansha Ltd., Tokyo in 2001. The anime was first published in 2002 and encompassed 24 episodes total. Icchan and Chitose

Mihara Ichiro (Icchan) & Hibiya Chitose's relationship in Chobits is kept in the dark for most of the series, but it's extremly important to the overall story arc. If they had never met, Chii and Freya never would have been born. At the beginning of Chobits, Icchan has already passed away for unknown reasons; leaving Chitose as a widow and without her precious daughters.

One unique aspect about their relationship, is that the timeline crosses over between Angelic Layer and Chobits. When the two met, they had been working at Icchan's company Piffle Princess. Eventually the two married, and because Chitose couldn't have children on her own, Icchan set out to create her a daughter using the most advanced technology (and of course, love). Chitose named the first daughter Freya, and the second Elda (Chi). When Freya started to break down because her heart hurt too much, the two desperately tried to fix their daughter. But Freya was determined to stop functioning.

Even after they had lost both of their daughters, the death of her husband Ichiro must have been equally hard. And throughout the series, Chitose longingly gazes at their family photo, and speaks to her late husband as if he were still alive. You can tell that she misses him terribly, and misses the family they had so carefully built together. Their relationship suffers through many hardships; but even in death, Chitose's heart will not be parted from Ichiro.

Chitose: Another thing... My ichiro told me that the word "Chobits" is special to him... Because it's made up of the letters in my name -- Chitose Hibiya. And that's why they're my children. You were so embaressed when you told me that, you turbed bright red.
